What is a tip?
A tip (or gratuity) is an extra payment given to service workers — most commonly in restaurants — on top of the bill, as a token of appreciation. Customary tip rates vary by country and venue, but 10–20% of the bill is common in many places.
How is the tip calculated?
The tip is a percentage of the bill. The total is the bill plus the tip, and the per-person share is the total divided by the number of people splitting the bill.
